i totally agree with you and as for the di ck who tried to say nuns were in the same category as muslim women he must be derranged, nuns cover their heads not their faces, if they want to live in our country they should abide by the same rules that we have to or fuk off where they came from, we have to bend over backwards for these people, its no wonder that there is so much race related crimes, its so frustrating that they can basically do what the hell they want, why cover your face if you have nothing to hide? x

I totally agree. It is intimidating and more importantly, it segregates people. Britain's idea of a multicultural nation has done nothing but create segregation and separateness. Our at times insane political correctness has lead to this attitude. Instead of trying to make the most of our cultural differences, we should be working on the similarities. We should be living together, not separately and wearing a face veil is just another way of disconnecting from British culture and society. Of course, this was all highlights by the 7/7 bombers when people were shocked that home grown terrorists exist. These people were just as British as you and I. Another point to add here is this. When travelling in the middle east, British tourists are advised to cover up their arms and legs as a sign of respect because women showing flesh is offencive in their culture. So if we cover up over there, isn't it only fair to ask people to remove their veils over here because its offensive and intimidating in our culture?

I say good old Jack straw. it's about time MP's started showing some backbone where muslims are concerned, instead of cow towing all the time. The trouble with the majority of muslims is that they don't want to intergrate. they expect everyone else to change to their ways. I know 2nd and 3rd generation muslims born here, all good lads and girls, but they still consider themselves as pakistani or Bangladeshi! If push ever came to shove they will be the enemy within! Beleive me we are letting Islam in by the back door. If they shout jump, politicians say how high! Regarding wearing the Burka or veil i find it scary, just as i do if i see someone wearing a balaclava. also before you go into a bank or post office etc. you are supposed to remove your crash helmet, so why shouldn't they remove their veil?

I fully agree. If we visit their country we have to cover our faces and remove our Christian cross, as we visiting a Muslim country and we have to respect their religion. Our country is in danger of loosing its faith, I’m not a religious person or a racist, but feel strongly to keeping our English values, and to keep England " English" next minute Christmas will be cancelled because it upsets the Muslims. The media is also on there side the news interviewed various Muslims regarding this subject, but no British white people were interviewed to give our opinion on TV!!! If people choose to live in this country they should adopt our way of life and try to fit in, otherwise return to there country of origin and keep to there culture don’t try to bring it here and change us….

It should be pointed out to any one who covers their face in public that wearing a mask of any sort . has always been and will always be regarded as suspicious in western society.
Wear a mask or veil by all means, but take the consequences and be aware that in the west we regard it not only as suspicious but also downright rude. Its has nothing to do with tolerance or any thing else, nobody minds shik turbans, Jewish skull caps nuns outfits, fancy dress or ridiculous hats as long as we can see the face. How can one interact with somebody skulking behind a veil?

It's always their rights! What about mine? The government is worried about offending them. I am actually offended, as a white non-religious woman, because these women are being oppressed in this country. Our grandmothers and great-grandmothers fought hard (sometimes paid with their lives) so that us women can 'enjoy' a bit of equality. And now these b*stards come here and shove in my face their outdated, ridiculous, 15th century-ish way of life. I don't want to be reminded of how it used to be here for women for hundreds of years. I am OFFENDED but who gives a flying f*ck about that? Why is it always them? Why not me??? Get them to parade in that ridiculous black veil in their own country not in here! I think, just out of protest, all british (those who proudly say they are non-muslim british of ANY RACE) should wear balacalavas and hoodies from now on until these idiots stop what they are wearing. I am not racist, I have other races in my family, but what I don't like is a culture being imposed on me that I do not accept and to which we are made to kow-tow.

We've been victims in our own country for years mate. We've had to put up with Muslims complaining about how we live for years; what we put on our stamps, what we print on shop till receipts, the wearing of crucifixes etc, etc, etc. The list goes on. BUT... when WE complain that we find some of the things that tey do and say offensive, we are racist!!!! We have dug our own grave on these issues by always caving in to their every demand. Thank God for Jack Straw! The first Politician with a backbone. There isn't a day that goes by where they are not complaining that they are finfing something offensive. If this country is really that intollerable for them to live in it, then there are plenty of airports and ferry ports that will take them elsewhere.

Remove the veil. Also any other symbol of religious significance. That way no one can claim discriminiation against their particular affiliation. Equally no special treatment can be requested either. Religion is a private matter, not one to be used to brow beat other people.

You are right. The veil not only signifies repression, but it isn't much different than the veil terrorists wear. In England, do as the English do ( except the bad teeth ). Have you noticed that Muslims have no tolerance for anything? Cartoons, comments from the Pope on a historical statement, books ( Rushdie ), mild comments about veils? These people remind me of Hitler's intolerance to anything that wasn't Nazi. If the Muslims are so concerned about their place in the world, they should either become a good neighbor, or call all of their people home to the mideast and continue to live under rocks or in caves. But they fail to grasp that the world is NOT going to bend to their childish complaints and immature crying over stupid offenses. They need to GROW UP.

I agree with jack straw. This is our country if Muslims want to live here then there has to be give & take. The ladies in Afganistan
under the taliban were forced to wear them. The ones that have been freed have chucked them.If we walked into a bank with our faces covered we would be charged with attempting to rob a bank.
