It's like a floppy disc drive driver.

It is a system component that handles the floppy drive.

In a similar way, you have USB Controllers (handles USB)
IDE Controllers (handles your hard disk, your cd rom drive, etc)

It is not to be confused with DRIVERS though.

Maybe if i compare computer to cars,
Controllers = petrol tank
Drivers = petrol
