My 8month old son is pusing his bottle away. He is cutting his first tooth and i don't know if that has anything to do with it. My husband says that it is time to start feeding him more food and less formula, but the doctors said that the bulk of his diet should be formula until he is a year. My son is also very big, he is 29 inches long and 24lbs. Not a fat baby, just tall and solid. I am worried about decreasing his formula, but he is so determined to not take his bottle, he fights with me every time i give it to him and has only taken two to three bottles in a day where three days ago he was taking atleast six.

Yes when they're teething it hurts them to eat and drink from a bottle. So that may be a cause for sure.
8 months old they should be breastfed or bottle fed 4 times a day and food in between. All his meats, veggies and fruits and cereal in the morning.
Your doctor is not right that the bulk of his meals should be formula at this age anyways.
As your baby grows older, the more solid foods he eats, the less breast milk he will take. There may be some days when your baby doesn't seem to want to eat very much but will breastfeed a lot, and other days when he wants to eat all day long and doesn't seem interested in nursing. There really isn't a set amount that a baby needs to take in a 24-hour period.

Maybe it's not an issue with the formula... maybe he's ready to start having a sippy cup. if you're worried about breaking him away from the formula, half and half it. half formula, half milk (whole milk of course.) And of course snacks always help. Like the Gerber puffed snacks. My son loved those soo much. Also, another child favorite is plain cheerios. (then again the fruity ones are just as good.) Being that the child is 8 months old, they should be eating something other then the formula all the time. You might even want to try some of the baby juices. They taste really good, and they're 100% fruit juice. But in the end it's up to you. You know what's best for your child... and whatever you do is going to make your child the healthiest they can be.

Call your sons pediatrician. He could be refusing simply because his gums hurt, and the pressure fromt he bottle nipple is causing him pain. you can always look into orajel or other products of that nature. My advice, before EVER changing your child's diet, especially before age 1, is to call his doctor and discuss your concerns with him. Pediatricians do this every day. They know what to do, they, not us, are the ones who studied these things in school for 8 years.

It is time to put that youngun on cereals at least. You can;t cut down their formula intake unless they are making p the nutrients and calories on other foods. Doctors do not always know what is best. Use your instincts as a mother!

It is probably because he is cutting teeth. Next week he may have more bottles. The past few days my 4 month old has hardly eaten, all he has wanted to do is sleep. This morning I couldn't feed him fast enough.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could read their little minds!?!?

Actually my son did the same thing. I would ask your doctor but just feed him his normal meals and inbetween offer him a bottle and of course one before bedtime. Or maybe start trying him on sippy cups.

First of all babies can tolerate solid foods at 5 months old, he probably wants real food, and that will also help his teeth come in when he can start using them, feed that baby. I am a mother of two so i have been there. FEED HIM SOLID FOOD !!!!!

Don't feed him when he doesnt want to eat. Part of the reason obseity is a problem in this country is that we're taught to eat everything on our plate. If he doesnt want to eat anymore, dont make him. If he starts loosing weight, see a doctor.
