sodium lauryl sulfate is the cause

I am a registered dietiain and we did an entire rotation about mouth health for cancer patients who get dry mouth, taste, aversions, and we leaned about ulcers. I know they are painful and lots of people get them. I use to think acid tomatoes caused them but no it is your toothpaste. 50% or more of people are allergic to "sodium lauryl sulfate" an ingredient in most tooth pastes. It is the thing that makes it foam. DId you know early tooth pasts did not have this but they did to to make comercials and make it bubble. sodium lauryl sulfate is really soap and not needed in tooth paste just to get added bubbles. Therefore you have to go to your pharmacy (any one at your grocery store, CVS, rite aid) and say you want sodium lauryl sulfate free toothpaste and they can let you get them. Where I live they are behind the counter but you don't need a script to purchase it. However these toothpastes are 6-8 bucks instead of the normal 2 bucks but you should never get an ulcer again.

There are several things that you can do to help prevent these sores in your mouth.

1. Examine your diet. Try to cut down on the ammount of acidic foods that you ingest.

2. Find a good mouth wash and use it on a regular basis. And use a peroxide rinse once a week.

Avoid stuff that's too acid. Also, if you have a lot of milk, try not to. I get that a lot too and it's always from milk. As soon as I cut the milk, they start improving. That's because milk, though not acid, becomes very acid when digested in the stomach.

Take care!

You mean cold sores? If that's the case, increase your vitamin C intake. You could also take a multi-vitamin that is rich in anti-oxidants.
