If you would have said 36, then I would say that is "so early" but 46 is not early. Of course it varies with everyone, but you are about average. Going through menopause does not mean that you will shrivel up or lose anything. Shoot, many women find a new vitality after menopause. Just make sure that you are eating right, exercising and getting all the nutrients you need and you will do just fine and keep looking great. You can not stop it, just effect it.

I went through menopause at age 47. Expect these symptoms to last a couple of years. There are strategies for the insomnia and hot flashes, but I finally gave in and am on the estrogen patches. Also, I exercise a lot, which seems to help keep the bones strong, and keeps me agile, but more importantly REALLY seems to help my mood and ability to handle the stresses of every day life. Now I am 53 and people always tell me they think I am in my early 40s, and my bone density is very good for age.
Eat light meals, limit the amount of food. You need not cut out completely any single food, just smaller portions. I had to cut out 50% of the amount I used to eat, just to maintain weight, and had to cut even more to lose the "menopause 20" that I packed on. I try to never eat any serving larger than a deck of cards (except salads, and other very low calorie foods). Have soup as an appetizer 20 minutes before a meal, the clearer the soup, the better. If you have creamy salad dressing, instead of pouring it onto the salad, simply have it on the side, and dip your fork into it before taking the bite.
Keep up with the trends in clothing fashion, (although I REFUSE to wear high heels). Choose a short, stylish hair style. Don't smoke, use sun screen, visit a dermatologist yearly (and all the other normal advice- blahda blahda blahda).

Been there, done that! For the past 3 years!
First, start taking Calcium supplements immediately, if you haven't already done so.
Second, go to Victoria's Secret and treat yourself to some new lingerie. Even if no one sees it on you, you will still have an interesting "I know something you don't know" aura about you!
Keep in mind that your metabolism will slow down a bit, which means that some extra pounds will creep up on you more easily than they have before. Soooo, either increase your energy level a bit or decrease your calorie intake a bit.
Your skin will probably require a bit more moisture, as well. Most companies that manufacture skin care products market them to specific age groups. I use Lancome, for instance, and have switched from the Renergie line to their Absolue line.
But most of all, just because you will no longer be able to conceive a child does not mean that you will shrivel up in no time! I have found that this time of my life is PRIME Time! Kids are grown, the dog is dead, I have my health, money issues are pretty much a thing of the past. Basically, I am considering this time to be MY TIME. And encourage you to give yourself the same permission. :))

Menopause usually happens some time after the age of 40. It's not the end of the world, however you cannot turn back the clock. There are hormone supplements available to help you get through, however your period is over. You can help by taking fidoestrogen which is found in soy products. If you're concerned speak to your doctor. Sometimes counseling can help as well if you're feeling at a loss. Don't despair, this feeling is normal. It's not the end, just the begining of the next stage of your life,

I love the answer about buying some lingerie! :)
Stay away from synthetic estrogen and phytoestrogens like soy. Heading into menopause, our bodies become estrogen DOMINANT / progesterone deficient. Estrogen is what causes all those nasty symptoms - insomnia, hot flashes, weight gain. Why would you put MORE estrogen into your system???
Look into supplementing with a high quality NATURAL Progesterone Cream. There are huge differences in the products on the market, so educate yourself before jumping into a purchase.
Pick up Dr. John Lee's book, "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause". You will learn everything you ever wanted to know about your changing hormones.
Happy menopause!

nothing, but start taking estrogen, and you will lose your trips to the grocery to go down the sanitary napkins aisle, your cramps every month, hmm, but the hormones will help with the hot flashes and sleeplessness, your youth at 46 has been gone for a while, so "WAVE BY-BY" but the suppleness, buy some good moisturizer.

That's not early. You won't shrivel up or anything. You should talk to your doctor to learn more about menopause and ways to deal with it.
You know, they say the grass is always greener...I'm 22 and seriously wish I was going through menopause sometimes.

You are probably in perimenopause, the stage before menopause. After one year of no menses you are considered in menopause. If you keep active, eat healthy and protect yourself in the sun there's no reason that you can't still look and feel young. It's the women that give up that age the most. Attitude is everything.
