Latitude refers to the coordinate lines which run laterally, or from left to right around the globe. Longitude lines run through the poles and around the earth "from top to bottom", as it were. GPS coordinates are formed from the intersection of a longitudinal line and a line of latitude, both of which are measured in Degrees.
