if a can of trail mix has 5% m&ms. if they advertise that their new can has 40% more m&ms. are there 45% m&ms then? or 7%

7% is right they added 40% of the exsitting 5% so if there 100 pieces of trail mix 5 of them will be M&Ms + 40% of that 5 = 7 total

No worries. It's an ad trick. They only have 7% M&Ms. But instead of saying, "now with 7% M&Ms!" they say, "now with 40% more M&Ms!". It makes it sound like there's a lot more.

Definitely 7%. 40% more does not mean "40% more than nothing," but rather "40% more than before." 40% of 5 is 2, 5% plus 2% is 7%.

it would be 7%...because they advertise as to having 40% more...and 40% of the original 5% is 2%...so an increase of 2% leads to the new total of 7%.

40% of 5%=40/100(5/100)=200/10000=2% more
so the answer is 7%
