Because some people can't pronounce names properly, it's a bit like Michelin, it's pronounced meeshilahn, not mitchelin, wheres the "T"??? Or Audi is pronounced Ahwdi not owdi. I do know how spell incidentally, I'm typing phonetically! My Grandad used to pronounce it pewjit!

Let me ask you this:

Do you sah Shev-roh-lay or Chev-row-let?

They're foreign words and therefore have different pronunciations.

the car is french. the word "peu" in french (meaning "little" or "few") is pronounced like "per" in english (eg. "PERsia").
geot ought then to be pronounced "ge" as in "gem" and "ot" as in "aw" in english.
to say PEWgeot is rather far-fetched, what would be the logical explanation for that?
I've never heard anyone pronounce it like that but might giggle a bit!

It is a french family name, from Mulhouse I think.
It should be pronounced PEUJOT, with EU as the I in "bird".
Anyway I love this car maker :-)
