First, clean everything thoroughly! Be sure that there are no crumbs or other food sources that will not only attract them, but encourage them to stick around!

The best way to kill them is the old-fashioned way: wooden snap traps made by the Victor Company. They are available at any drug store, supermarket or hardware store. Usually in packages of 2 for about a dollar.

Buy about a dozen of them, and bait them with a small dab of peanut butter. Even though the traps SAY they come with "plastic cheese", use the peanut butter too.

Place the traps along the walls in various parts of your house: pantry, next to refrigerator, under the sinks, behind waste baskets, etc. You should start catching them within about 12 hours!

When I catch one, I throw the whole thing away--trap with mouse. I put a plastic bag over my hand, inside out--pick up the thing, then tie it tight and pitch it in an outside trash receptacle.

Good luck!!!

A cat. But don't over feed him, he will get lazy.
If you don't want a cat, use rat poison. You can purchase it at the super market. The best comes from a feed store though.

Another method of getting rid of pests is, put an old speaker under your house. Have it connected to a radio on a heavy metal station. The screeching of the music makes rats, skunks, possums and all other critters hit the road. Do not put the radio on easy listening, only heavy metal.
Hope this helps.

The most reliable way to deal with mice is to hire an exterminator and have them come every quarter to inspect. Once you see them in your house, they have infested it. It will take a long time to get rid of them. The cat idea also works well, again, because it's a long term solution: the cat is always there.

D-Con has a product that mice will feed on and then seek water, thereby leaving your house. Make sure though, if you have any children, keep them away from the D-Con. Hide the D-Con in out of the way and hard to reach spots, the mice will find it easily.

With three cats I don't have that problem now but from past experience I'd say go with the traps. With poison you never know if they might crawl in some hole to die and stink up your house.
