I'm from the south USA and the most outstanding homes w/eye appeal for red brick is bright white glossy paint. It is now available in latex instead of the oil base.

My sister has a large ranch style
home that is red brick. They have
always painted and re-painted
the same color trim.
It is a dark brick color.
The orangy - brick red color.
It blends well with the bricks
and kind of looks natural on
everything. Their roof is dark.
If it is a smaller house, that
may not work , I don't know.
You would still need a color
for doors, and I think they
use white. Isn't that awful-
I go there all the time, but
the door is always open,
so I can't really remember
what color they are!

You have to take into consideration the color of the brick and of the roof. Make a drawing of the front of the house with a pencil or black pen, then make several copies. It doesn't matter the quality of the drawing, as long as it shows the sections of the house from ground level to top of roof.
Use crayons, watercolors, or colored pencils to fill in the brick and roof colors. Then experiment with the colors you're considering on the parts to be painted. I'd suggest just one other color than the roof and brick (unless they're the same, then you can add two colors).
Ask a friend or acquaintance whose sense of color you like to help you. Or, as always, ask the folks at Home Depot to make suggestions. I like the look of a brightly colored front door sometimes. It says to me that the owner has a sense of fun and individuality.
Good luck, and have fun with it!

Why not try a Brunswick Green (or slightly lighter green) on the larger pieces of trim for example shutters and railings, with the small pieces like window frames in gloss white?
Have a look at these old Australian houses - nothing like yours I'd say.

We hated the white trim on our house, so I went to Pratt & Lambert - they have a "Colonial Williamsburg Collection."
We ended up painting the door black and getting a new brass lockset, but we painted the trim and gutters "Governor's Mansion Beige" - which is a dark beige color. It looked funny at first, but it got lots of compliments from the neighbors. It's the same color they use on all the colonial buildings in Williamsburg, VA

My house is 1/2 brick bottom on the front. The house is buttercup yellow with forest green trim. I think it looks great!
