Why do I hardly ever remember my dreams?

From what i remember from my A Level Psychology lessons there are 2 types of sleep, REM and non REM (Rapin Eye Movement), REM sleep is the sleep where we tend to remember our dreams, in this sleep the activity of our brains neurons works pretty much in the same way as when we are awake.

Non REM sleep is a deep sleep, your brain isnt processing the thoughts and activities of the day.

I can only suggest that you are having more time in the night in Non REM sleep than you are REM and therefore your brain isnt being used as it would in REM sleep and there is nothing for you to remember.

This occurs more the older you get.
Non REM is a more restful sleep and allows your body to recover from the days stresses, so take it from me its a good thing.

You don't really pay attention to them during the waking hours. If you give them more thought and start a dream journal where you write down every little thing you remember right after you wake up, then you'll remember more.

One easy trick to have more vivid dreams and remember them better is to have a morning nap. It's best to try when you don't have to get up early; just make your alarm clock wake you up at 7am (if you went to bed around midnight), then stay up for half an hour (really stay awake, don't lay in bed... take a shower if you need to), and then go to bed and sleep as long as you want. You should remember those dreams... Just get a pen an paper ready :)

Different have different brain activities. Sometimes not remembering is better than remembering. Some dreams are nightwares. You don't remember it because subconsciously you may be occupied by other stuff like errand to run in the morning. Plus, remembering dreams are like stamping in your mind. I guess subconsciously you don't find those dreams are important to remember

You need a bit of practice. Keep a pen and paper beside your bed and write down ANYTHING you remember. This will make the link between your conscious and unconscious a bit stronger, and you'll remember more in future.

Dreams occur normally in the early hours of the morning, so you might not remember them if you're waking up or sleeping at odd hours either.

Probably because you wake up too quickly. Alarm clocks and have-to-get-up stress are no good. You would remember your dreams with a little practice.

Most people don't.
It's your sub conscious that creates your dreams so you're not meant to remember them. x
