I've always found it is because your mind is running on overtime or you have had enough sleep already, I can only sleep for 5 hours and that is it...I may fall asleep in the middle of the day for an hour or so...but at night in one stretch it is 5 hours only...everyone has their own time clock.

Try some chamomille tea and a hot bath/shower before you go to bed. Don't worry about going to sleep just lie down and close your eyes. Another trick I've discovered is listening to books on tape at night while I'm lying in bed. I fall asleep easily and I don't have any of those distracting anxiety ridden thoughts that can keep me up all night. You could also try taking your pills at a different time of day. Insomnia isn't really a side effect of birth control pills though but, it might work for you. If you are switching to an earlier time you don't need to worry about back up protection. If you are switching to a later time you might want to wait until your period and the first pill of your new pack.

I wonder if you have been inactive in the past week or so.. If thats the fact then working out and hour a day will help you to sleep but if you are bored all the time then your body cant differencitate between sleep time and wake time and its time for a routine that helps your body realize that. Also melatonin is good to take and you can get it at any store (CVS) This is taken before bed and helps you to relax.. also can try sleepy time tea or warm milk (though this is pretty icky to drink sometimes) Hope this helps you and good luck

Hormonal imbalance itself can cause insomnia. This is a very common complaint for women in premenopause.

The birth control pills you are taking are manipulating your hormones. This essentially puts you in premenopause. They could very well be your problem.

Stress. Subconsious thoughts. Drug interaction. Ask your doctor. Try going to bed at a different time. Get up earlier.
