When I was 19, I had an almost fatal attack, was rushed to hospital and wired up to an ECG monitor, as the crushing pain in my chest and left arm made them think I was having a heart attack.
It was just an asthma attack, but it took two years to stabalise me after that one. Pain in your breast from straining your ribs sounds quite likely.

Asthma is an over active immune disorder.
Your immune system is not working as it should and needs to be brought into balance. There is a relatively new science which took four Nobel Prizes for Medicine which deals with cell-to-cell communication. This means that cells need to send the correct messages to the immune system in order for the immune system to respond to any infections or disease. In your case, the immune system is responding when it shouldn't be causing the typical symptoms of tight chest and struggling for breath.
This is a scary thing to have happen, but it is very easy to deal with once and for all.
There are stories from Asthma sufferers who have had their lives changed for good, if you would like to listen to them them I suggest you visit the following site, as I did. They are mind-blowing.
You do not have to go through the stress of Asthma if you take on board what this web site says.
Take care

I've just come out of hospital after having been in for the similar reasons. Your doctor is probably right. Take a couple of Paracetamol - that's what they did for me in hospital. Mind you, I'd already had a Pethidine injection. If the pain persists you must see your GP immediately. Self medication for anything is not a good thing.

You probably pulled muscles too. I'm pretty sure you strained your ribs. I had something similar happen to me a few years ago. My chest hurt so bad they thought I ws having a heart attack. It was pulled muscles from an asthma attack while I had pneumonia. Great combo!!

That's common with people that have respiratory problems. You're probably very sore. Some respiratory medications can speed up your heart rate like Albuterol and steroids that they use to reduce inflammation caused my bronchospasms. If you are having left sided chest pain, that is radiating to your jaw or down your left arm, you need to call 911. If you feel palpatations (fluttering in your left side of your chest), call your MD and tell him/her.
It's not uncommon for someone with respiratory issues to crack a rib trying to breathe, usually after coughing spells.
