The pill helps you get regular, but I, personally, don't recommend the pill, I had bad side effects, but every woman is different. Try talking to your doctor. You always ovulate 14 days after your period. Try marking it on the calender. It doesn't matter if it comes regular, it is always 14 days after and before your period.

There are a few ways. I obviously dont know HOW irregular your periods are, so here are the two most common ways, without going to the doctor....
1. Basal Temperature: Go to walmart, or a pharmacy and buy a BASAL thermometer. They are slightly different than a reg thermometer. They are fairly cheap (about $10). Chart your temperature EVERYDAY in the morning BEFORE you get out of bed or move around too much (pretty much, wake up...roll over, grab the thermometer and take your temp). Your basal temp is the temp at which your body rests (even though you are sleeping under bankets and such...it all evens out if you do it at the same time everyday...right when you wake up...even if it is at different times of the morning). Do this for awhile...sometimes it takes afew months to find the pattern and predict ovulation. Your body temp will 'spike' (go up a few degrees) when you are ovulating. Otherwise it shoudl stay abotu the same (within a degree of eachother or so). Once you figure out the pattern of your basal temp, you will be able to hopefully predict when you will ovulate (right before the spike in temp is when you should have sex to acheieve pregnancy...or AVOID those days to PREVENT pregnancy). This is a simple, and cheap way to do this, however it takes a while to see the pattern your body has via temp, and it might not be too easy for you if your periods are very irregular.
Ovulation kits/ovulation test strips: You can buy an ovulation kit at walmart or any pharmacy. Its almost like a pregnancy test...pee on the stick type deal, and the day or two before you begin to ovulate, it will be positive. I found that the test kits are expensive (like $15 each) and if your periods are irregular, you wil most likely need two or three boxes to have enough strips/stick to test with. The ovulation test strips are excatly what the 'kits' offer, only wihtout all the fancy packaging. You use both of htese (test strips and kits) in the same way. Instructions are included with both, but from the best of my memory you do it like this (i might be off on the number of days, so if you choose this method, make sure to read the instructions first) After your last period, you count 9 days forward. On the 9th day, you begin using hte kit/strips, once a day. You do this until you get a positive result. If you have not gotten a positive result in certain number of days you may want to make an appt with the doc (if trying to conceive) because you may not be ovulating.
You can order the ovulation test strips online and they are WAY cheaper than buying all those kits. They are about $20-$25 each package of 40 I believe. Way better deal than even walmart has. To find them online, just do a search for "Ovulation Test Strips". They have many kind fo choose from...ones that are in plasitc applicators, more accurate (more days in advance), etc.
Good luck.

Even if you have regular periods, they don't come on the SAME day every month!!! It's the number of days in your cycle.
To find out when you ovulate, you can get an ovulation kit, or just take your temperature every morning after you wake up, chart it, and see if it starts to increase. That's when you ovulate when the temp rises.
