I think the playoffs are a joke. I fully understand the economic need for them in an overly expanded baseball universe.I also understand the need to create the illusion that your team that barely finished above five hundred is a legitimate contender for the title, because if it wasn't you wouldn't go to their games after they were eliminated in the third week in August.
The beauty of baseball is the long season . Each team has more than ample opportunity to prove their worth. ,The most worthy team will have won the most games and can therefore rightfully claim their leagues pennant.
The two most worthy teams will then play for a championship and the winner can rightfully claim the title.
The playoff system eliminates all that and reduces it to a series of short series crap shoots.
If MLB insists on keeping this idiot system of playoffs at the very least eliminate the wild card and give a first round bye to the team with the best record. Excellence needs to be rewarded otherwise baseball becomes another boring sport like basketball.*

Yes I think if a team is on a hot streak they can ride that into the world series. If you really must know the Braves have had the best pitching in the NL for the last 14 years and have won 1 title and they were in the playoff all 14 years so pitching doesn’t win it for you.

Being hot at the right time is what counts in all playoff rounds.
In baseball, the World Series has been won by a Wild Card team quite often recently. They didn't even win their division during the regular season.

No, if that was true then the Dodgers and the Padres should be up by 2 games since they were the hottest teams going into the series, and the Cards and the Mets should be down by 2 games. It has alway been and will always be, "Good Pitching Wins" short series.

The team with the better pitching usually wins. Kinda like hockey... If you run into a hot goalie, you're going to have a hard time winning games.

There is definitely a lot to be said about momentum going into the playoffs. If you're on fire and bursting with confidence going in you have a much better chance than if you sloth or back your way in.
