Trojans aren't really a virus unless it self-replicates. A trojan is simply a program that is written to cause damage or to install spyware or keyloggers, but are packaged to appear as a harmless application or game.

As far as infecting, it depends. A read-only MP3 player won't be affected. These are the CD type MP3 players. If it's an MP3 player like an iPod then yes it could. This is because the MP3 player has its own operating system.

Since we don't know what kind of MP3 player you have the best I can suggest is to go to the manufactures web site and see if they have a firmware updater. Download the latest and run it. Also look into the manual to see how to restore your MP3 to factory default.

A Trojan horse virus is a malicious program that is disguised as or embedded within legitimate software. The term is derived from the classical myth of the Trojan Horse. They may look useful or interesting (or at the very least harmless) to an unsuspecting user, but are actually harmful when executed. This virus can also manifest itself in online games; I know because I downloaded the World of Warcrat and the next day when I ran a virus scan it said that I had a trojan horse virus. Remove as soon as possible because this virus can destroy or mess up very vital programs on your computer.

If your MP3 connects to the computer and is recognized as an external hard drive then it can indeed be infected.
I doubt it is a full blown virus and may well be associated with your music transfers.
Firstly disinfect the computer you are using with a good inti-virus program, if this cures the problem, fine.
If not , then clear the memory of the MP3 and reload your tunes.
If your MP3 is given a drive letter when you connect it you can get the AV software to check it also.
Ensure you have a good firewall running at all times, it is foolhardy to connect to the Internet without one.
ZoneAlarm has a good one and it is free.
Good Luck.

A destructive program that masquerades as a benign application. Unlike viruses, Trojan horses do not replicate themselves but they can be just as destructive. One of the most insidious types of Trojan horse is a program that claims to rid your computer of viruses but instead introduces viruses onto your computer.

a trojan can be placed in files or spyware and it open a backdoor into your computer so that the hackers can get whatever they need off of your computer and mess with it a little bit.

It probably cannot affect the MP3 player, but it can affect the computer. I suggest scanning with AVG Antivirus...it's free and works very well.
