Appendix is actually a vestigeal organ. In Human terms, it means that it is a part of body that has no real function.
However, when you eat something bad, it can swell and creates a lot of trouble. In that situation, people have it operated and removed. It doesn't limit you any way if it is removed!
By the way, as you might have guessed by now, it is a part of the digestive system and it attaches to the beginning of your large intestine, where the small and large intestines meet. It is open at the end that connects to the large intestine and closed at the other end, so material can move into and out of the appendix but it has nowhere to go.

I have pain in the same area. Had a CT scan looking for a hernia that came back negative, but appendix was never discussed prior to the scan. Now Im starting to wonder if it may be a bad appendix. Wouldn t the CT scan show that?

The appendix is a narrow, muscular, worm-like pouch, usually around nine centimetres long. Attached to the first part of your large intestine

This is a short,slim,blind-ended tube up do 10cm long attached to the caecum. a pouch at the start of the large intestine.its function is unknown.it is however prone to inflammation and infection. treatment is prompt surgical removal of the diseased appendix.starts at the centre of the abdomen later it shifts to the right iliac fossa is the classic symptom.

it s near the junction of small and large intestine..around 10 cms below and right from the belly button. that s why people who had an appendicectomy have a scar on the right side
