Because they have better options. Because they want good value for the money. Because they are working at jobs making less an hour than the automakers and feel no loyalty to people without education who make more than they do.

Recently I rented a brand new Chevrolet Aveo. Idiotically, you have to open this little drawer in front of the driver's left knee to get access to the trunk opener button. After putting my luggage away, I got into the car with the drawer still open. It absolutely disintegrated when my knee contacted it. I was literally picking up pieces of this stupid drawer off the floor. It didn't hurt my knee at all so I know that I didn't hit it very hard. But first off, you're not going to find stupid features like this in a foreign car. Secondly, even if you did, it wouldn't disintegrate when you bumped into it. This particular drawer was a microcosm as to the overall quality and fit and finish of the entire car and this car is a microcosm as to the overall quality and fit and finish of American cars in general. Amazing how much money Chevrolet spends on the Corvette making it the perfect sports car. Unfortunately, no matter how perfect the Corvette ever becomes, it is nothing more than just a Chevrolet, made by the same company that makes crapmobiles like the Aveo. Chevrolet needs to spend less on making the Corvette good and more on making the rest of their cars good; they are heavily unbalanced in that regard.

i own a repair shop, and if the American cars would last as good as the foreign ones people would buy them, for the pas ten-15 years people have bought cars that would last, mainly because most average people cant afford a new car every 3-5 years ,over 75% of the American people barely make above the minimum wage and the cost of living had more than doubled in the past 3 years so everyone is making their dollars go as far as they can,,they will start buying American again, because the quality is coming back in our vehicles but it takes time to make people realize it,good luck i hope this help,s.

If you mean cars, the auto makers (foriegn and domestic) have such huge global infrustructures that the purchase benefits many people in many locations. Toyotas and Hondas are the best value because they don't need return trips to the shop to fix problems under warranty. Your time is valuable.

Chinese import stuff is cheap and disposable.

Low tech manufacturing jobs will go to other countries because the skill and education required is minimal. The US must maintain the high tech, high education, leading edge research and devolopement to remain the leader in the world. The workers must have the skills and education to work these jobs or become unemployed.

Regardless of what you buy, it helps the US economy.

I can't say the vehicles don't last. My salesman has a Taurus with 217,000 miles on it. But it takes a lot of maintenance to keep them running. The problem I have with american is the resale value on them. The resale value is horrible. I just personally purchased a Camry....I know that if I put 150,000 miles on that vehicle that it will still have some value to it. Try doing that with an American automobile.

American cars don't hold up like they used to... My 2002 Ford is falling apart. My sister has the exact same car/model year, and she is having the same front-end problems that I am. Ford will take no responsibility for the fault, and repairs costs where @ $500 (each). FYI, she lives in a different state, and we are both meticulous about the upkeep of our cars.

Unfortunately there's not a whole lot made here any more. The free trade agreement made it so that it was cheaper for american companies to produce their products overseas and import them back in. I try to buy american when I can. It seems like everything you buy says that it was made in china, taiwan, indonesia, and packistan.

What exactly *is* buying American anymore? My Trans Am was manufactured in Canada, Hyundais are built in Alabama, Toyotas are made in Ohio, etc.
