Our Unions used to be about insuring the working men and women of our country can take comfort in knowing that their human rights are safe in a workplace that often tries to get one over on us. It seems now many of our Unions are just as bad as the corporate thugs we were originally protected from. Any insight or thoughts?

They have negotiated themselves out of business. They have chosen to go the way of most organizations that become power hungry, they forgot their principals and the people that made their very existence possible.

The rank and file Union bosses now have so much power and money to fund the union; they have lost sight of what they are in power for. Money and power can and do corrupt completely, the hot tip is to vote out the old and bring in new leaders with the grass roots desire to help the working stiff.

I believe that the Union leaderships have been co-opted or flat out taken over by radicals in each of their movements (there are probably exceptions). They used to be about ensuring the rights of the workers to decent wages and treatment but now they seem to have embraced radical left wing political causes which even many of their members don't agree with and have nothing to do with their industry. in addition, the unions need to return tohonest bargaining with management rather than the current extort and bully until they get everything they want. I see union power waning until the members recapture their leaderships and give politics the heave-ho.

In the 70, 80 & 90's I was in management working with AFL-CIO, Teamsters, Tobacco Workers, Electricians... boy, have times changed! My husband is a United Transportation Worker but because it is "affiliated" with the govt. run railroad commission it has been a joke for decades! It is beyond my comprehension why all of these unions have not come out against illegal immigrants....one of their "claims to fame" is that they are breaking the unions...sadly, how true! You have to wonder if perhaps their leadership are now firmly in the pockets of big business... I know & have been involved in many "deals" between unions & big business...usually just deals to let one "good" worker get slight reprimand for a mistake if the union would agree to fire one habitual serious offender ..a good deal for all, union members, union officials & business. Now it seems the good of the union member has been deleted from the equasion...I have personally contacted each & every union trying to get them to come out against illegals ...we are losing the manufacturing jobs paying btw. $50 & $75,000 per year to high school graduates worth their weight in gold!
EVERY union member & their families need to contact their union representatives & the "elected class" to demand the protection from the trade agreements btw. America & mexico!their union dues & tax dollars afford them It's late but not too late - the mexican govt. has not stopped their efforts to ensure middle-class Americans support the illegals!

Attrition thru Local, State & Federal Enforcement

My aunt used to live in DC. There were a number of high-ranking union leaders living in the same condo complex as her. She often heard them laughing and making fun of the regional union "local yokels" coming to the capital, complaining about having to show them around, and being forced to "listen" to their problems and act like they cared. She said it was very obvious they DIDN'T care about local issues and were in it for the power and the money.
