I own an 87 El Dorado. The fuel system needs a number of different things to work. One of them is similar to that of an Astro. The Astro and many other GM cars have what is called a “cold start” valve incorporated into the manifold. It injects fuel into the manifold for a split second when the engine is at operating temperatures, and when the engine is cold, it works like a choke valve and enriches the fuel/air mixture. It is computer controlled so it won’t remain on all of the time. If it becomes clogged or contaminated it won’t work like it should and I think that may be your problem. Try using a fuel additive for cleaning injectors as a one time possibility and if it won’t clear up, buy a new cold start valve and replace it. This should clear up the problem.

Check the 2 wire connectors to the injectors by using a 12 volt testing light. If the light blinks, while turning the engine over, the circuit is OK . Check the fuses if the light doesn't blink. Providing you have fuel pressure to the throttle body, you have a computer problem.
And only a qualified tech can solve the problem for you. Good luck.
The cold start injector should not be a problem if it starts with starting fluid, it should keep running.

Check or replace the fuel pump relay. Then check the electrical condition of the distributor for any wear or burn markings.

verify to work out if the gas pump is operating. you ought to be able to hearken to the gas pump operating in case you turn the ignition on and bypass to the again of the automobile the position the gas tank is. If its no longer operating verify the fuses to make confident they are ok. in the adventure that they are good then its probable a foul gas pump.
