It probably has something to do w/ the fact that our happiness quite often comes from the barrel of a gun. I personally wish we staid out of foreign affairs more often.

I suppose people around the globe don't hate Americans in general, but the actions of your government and corporations. The US is currently the most powerful nation on the globe in an economic and military sense. Power corrupts and interests have to be defended ,maintained and enlarged. So, American soldiers from the lower strata of american society don't go abroad to do good and make people happy but risk their lives to defend the interests of the rich and powerful. (a general tendency in history!)The victims of the Bhopal disaster are still waiting for the promised compensations but the American company Union Carbide/ Dow Chemical doesn't give a **** about those Indian peasants. The Vietnamese farmers were not made happy with landmines in their paddies, Agent Orange in their soil which still causes severe birth defects and an US embargo which lasted into the nineties (after 50 years of war against foreign intruders). Donald Rumsfeld and George Bush sr. were longtime friends with Saddam Hussein and enjoyed several hunting parties in the desert together. When he became a nuisance because he wanted to sell Iraqi oil no longer exclusively to the US and US companies (the oil for food program) he got suddenly connected with Al Qaida and the rest is a miserable part of history in the making..

You are being kept ignorant by your media, your school system, your corporations and your government. Use the Net to know what's really going on. But be aware, NSA is looking over your shoulder.

Good question
IMO people hate us, when we are doing what's right, because they benefit from wrong doing
Take Iraq, if the insurgents REALLY wanted US to leave, they would let things quiet down, then after we bring our soldiers home, they'd go ape again
But they are gaining support by getting the more gullible people to get themselves killed
They believe in a false god, and practice a religion that is based on stealing and murder

I'm British, I don't hate Americans but I don't like your accents....with that I don't like many versions of the British accent either.

I don't see how you can generalise and say you are all "happy" thats a bit of a weird comment!

Everybody has a big ego and wants us to be happy like THEM. They resent that we can be happy like us.
