I have a birdbath in my yard. It us in the middle of the yard in full sun. It looks pretty bare and I would like suggestions on what type of flowers or greenery to plant around it. I live in NW Georgia.

Since the area under the birdbath may be shaded some by the bowl of the birdbath, you might consider some annuals that like some shade. I'd recommend impatiens. They like shade but will tolderate some sun and they come in a lot of colors.

If it is mostly sunny, you might try some petunias or begonias.

None of those plants will overgrow your birdbath and they'll pretty much stay where you put them. You'll be able to change your birdbath water without crushing the plants, too.

At the end of the year, pull them out and plant new ones next year. Lots of variety is available with annuals. Have fun with it.

Word of advice: You probably already know this, but I have to put this in for people who might not know. Birdbath water should be changed at least every 3 days (more often is better) because West Nile Virus can grow in old birdbath water. Keep them safe and change the water every other day.

Whatever you like. Begonia likes a lot sun and I think geraniums like a lot of sun. Mums (fall) like sun. Just read the tags on the plants.

This summer my neighbor planted some purple flowers in the ground surrounding her bird bath. Then she planted the same kind of purple flowers in the actual basin of the birdbath. I don't know what the flowers were but it was very pretty.

Happy gardening!

Since your birdbath location is in direct sun all day, you have an enormous variety of choices; anything in the perennial family and even succulents. If it were shaded, I would suggest hostas, or even blooming ground covers, however they can get a bit invasive. You have many options. Good luck!
