We're going to be at Disney World from the 9th to the 18th of October, which includes one weekend. I know it's a quieter time of year there overall, but I'm told the weekends are still very busy. Which park would be best for visiting on the weekend? My kids have suggested Typhoon Lagoon on the Saturday and Epcot on the Sunday, or vice versa, because Magic Kingdom, MGM and Animal Kingdom will all be crazy busy on the weekend. Any thoughts or advice on this topic??

Your kids probably have the right idea with doing a water park on the weekend, because most people come to Florida this time of year and don't plan on the water parks or realize they're open. I've only ever been during the off season and it's pretty nice. I enjoyed Typhoon Lagoon a lot because it's a more relaxed water park. Blizzard beach has more of the speed slides.

Epcot is probably a good choice for sunday. It's the largest park by far, so you'll need at least one day to see everything. And with the Food and Wine festival going on, you'll definitely want to spend extra time trying the different foods and taking your time making it around the park.

Usually my fiance and I can spend one day doing MGM and DAK because they're not quite as large. But you may want to spend a day at each and do everything. DAK is best to do on a day that isn't hot, so I would check the forecast for the week and plan on going there on the coolest day. Magic Kingdom is always pretty busy, so going during the week is a good idea. One last thing to remember is that if you're staying at the resorts there, you'll be able to use the Extra Magic Hours to stay in the parks after they close or before they open. That may also affect what days you'll be going to which parks.

Have fun!

I think your kids are on the right track. One of the water parks would be a good idea, Typhoon Lagoon especially. (I love both water parks, but at Blizzard Beach everything is painted white to make it look like snow, so on a sunny day the sunlight reflects off of everything. It makes it so miserable standing in line squinting and shielding your eyes. Typhoon Lagoon is way better with Shark Reef, the Crush 'n' Gusher, and the giant wave pool.) Of course, if you have time, which you may during your ten day stay, do both of the water parks. Epcot on a weekend day is also a good idea. Epcot tends to be busiest during week days.

This should help, it's from the Walt Disney World website...

"During regular attendance periods the Theme Parks tend to be the busiest on the following days:
Magic Kingdom® Park: Monday, Thursday, and Saturday
Epcot®: Tuesday and Friday
Disney-MGM Studios: Sunday and Wednesday
Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday"

So, now, you actually know what theme parks would be best for the weekend. And this is according to Walt Disney World, so I'm sure it's fairly accurate.

I also agree that the Animal Kingdom Park would be a good choice, but if you can, try to plan to do the Animal Kingdom Park on a cooler day (check the forecast for your vacation.) The Animal Kingdom Park is the worst on a hot day. Most of the attractions are outdoors, not enclosed like at many of the other parks, so you're constantly out in the sun.

Definitely take advantage of the Extra Magic Hours, especially in the evening. In the evening, during the Extra Magic Hours, the parks are nearly empty. We were at the Magic Kingdom and there was Extra Magic Hours until 2:00AM. It was awesome, we walked right on Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, the Haunted Mansion, etc.

Anyway, have a great vacation!

* btlrboyz, you're not very smart. Why do you even bother answering questions and if you're just going to be rude and give an incorrect answer, or copy someone elses? The AllEarsNet website has the list copied from the Walt Disney World website, and that's the list I pasted on this question. And it doesn't state at all that the Magic Kingdom is the best for Sunday. All it says is which park is the busiest on Sunday, which is Disney-MGM Studios, so any other parks should be fine for a Sunday.
(I would've personally emailed you, but you don't have a link to message you.)

Ok, since you are going to be spending the entire 10 days at Disney it won't really matter. If you find the crowds a bit too much on a weekend, you can always cut a day at that particular park short. You have more days to make it up.

If you are staying at a Disney Resort, take advantage of the Extra Magic Hours available to Resort guests. Find out which parks will be open extra hours on what days. Sometimes a park is open one hour earlier, or sometimes it stays open up to 3 hours later. (You can check the Disney World website today and look for the calenders. These will tell you when and where the Extra Magic Hours are)

Now, I am thinking about the weekends.....I agree that Magic Kingdom will probably be worse on a weekend (I tend to plan weekends with "daddy visits" in mind. Many times when divorced parents get weekend visits, they take the kids to parks etc. and most kids would like Magic Kingdom) I think Epcot would be a good choice for Sunday, but I also think Animal Kingdom might be ok. The water parks I cannot comment on, since I don't care for water parks and have never been to Disney's.

Whatever you choose to do, make the most of it! Have a great trip!

Of all your options, yes, going to a water park on the weekend to avoid the crowds at the other parks would be a good idea. Epcot will be having its Food & Wine Festival when you are there, so the weekend at Epcot will be even more crowded than during the week. You should do Epcot during the week then, and of the other Disney parks, I'd say Animal Kingdom may be the best option for the weekend. I am fairly certain it has the lowest attendance of the four parks (in general).

I recommend that you visit any of the following on the weekends:

Downtown Disney, weather permitting
Typhoon Lagoon, weather permitting
Blizzard Beach
Visit any of the Disney Resorts and look around or enjoy some great food
Visit a nearby beach, weather permitting

You can try visiting EPCOT or Disney MGM Studios. Animal Kingdom is still busy because of Expedition Everest and I would never visit the Magic Kingdom on a weekend. The crowds will be terrible. Save that for a weekday.

Honestly, you don't need to worry about crowds at all this time of year. The busiest day for you will actually be your first day since it will be part of the 3 day weekend for Columbus Day. I would probably do a water park that day. The rest of the time will be pretty much getting right on the rides at any park. Crowds are always bigger in the afternoon so do make use of extra magic hours. Enjoy!! I've spent cloase to 100 days in Disney World over the years and still want to go back.

My Husband and I were just there for a week, from September 9 through September 15, 2006. We don't have kids, we were celebrating our 1 year anniversary and it was a vacation in our price range and he had never been there so it was perfect. I had gone with my family about 9 years ago in July. It was terrible because it was 100 degrees and the amount of people was just awful. You waited in lines for 2 hours to get onto rides and shows. This time we went to Magic Kingdom on Sunday (it is the funniest park) and there were just not many people, we had to wait in line for up to 20 minutes but that was the longest. Most of them we waited 5 minutes or just walked on. We went again on Wednesday to Magic Kingdom and notice that we had to wait a little longer for rides are there were many more people. we had gone to Hawaii last year and the people told us that Sunday and Monday are the best time to go places because that is when most people are traveling. I believe that might be the case here, most people flying come on Friday to Sunday, stay the week and then leave again. We had a blast on Sunday at Magic Kingdom and went through the park really fast because we did not have to wait in line. Make sure you go to the car stunt show at MGM Studios, it is really fun!!

Disney international has 4 subject parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios) and 2 water parks (snow fall sea coast, hurricane Lagoon), jointly as Disneyland basically has 2 subject parks (Disneyland and California journey). in view that Disney international has 4 subject parks, this is guaranteed to have greater rides. in spite of the undeniable fact that, Disneyland hotel does even have some super rides that Disney international does not have, like the Matterhorn, Indiana Jones, Mr. Toad's Wild experience, Alice in Wonderland, Pinocchio, Roger Rabbit, looking Nemo, California Screamin', Goofy's Sky college, Grizzly River Run, Little Mermaid, and Mickey's exciting Wheel. So, Disneyland isn't basically a smaller version of Disney international, there is rather some diverse stuff. So, in case you're a Disney fan who's been to Disney international, Disneyland is nicely worth sorting out besides. exceptionally in view that rather some people will flow to Disney international and could flow to basically Magic Kingdom--Disneyland's magic kingdom is better and better (and the unique), so i could desire to flow there if i'm basically going to a minimum of one park.

My experience as a DW freqenter is that the parks are busy all of the time. Magic Kingdom is always the busiest. If you are going to have Park Hopper tickets, just move around and choose which is most comfortable for you and your family.
We have found that MGM and Animal Kingdom have the least crowds, but then again, you never can tell.
Have fun.

Blizzard Beach in my opinion is better than Typhoon. But.. I just went there recently and niether of the water parks were busy. They were dead just about no one was in the Water Parks. On the other hand, Animal Kindom is way crowded right now, because of the Mt. Everest ride. But Mt. Everest is an awsome ride.
