Use electric charcoal iron to start the coals (instead of lighter fluid) to eliminate the smell and taste of the lighter fluid. Charcoal is the only way to go. With gas even the lowest settings are sometimes too hot. With charcoal the temperature can be turned way down by using the vents properly. If I want to cook with gas I'll use the stove and broiler. I have used gas, propane and charcoal. After many years of experience I now only use charcoal with the electric iron to start it.

Charcoal for flavor and if time is not a consideration
Converted over to gas a few years back - easier to start up and maintain an even temperature

Charcoal makes the food taste yummy!! Gas is cleaner and more efficient. But, they both cook the food. I'd go with either.

i think gas as these days charcoals are too costly and it is not wise to use it as a fuel for household purpose as gas is relatively cheaper than charcoal.

Charcoal is better, you get a better grilling taste!!! Gas grill is like cooking on a stove, it defeats the purpose in my opinion.

I love steak on charcoal, but not the kind that has the lighter fluid on it already, it makes the food taste bad
