I suppose its vanity....everyone wants to look and act young...I was reading recently where some people even feel discriminated against because of being an older employee, so perhaps that would be a reason as well...personally I don't pay any attention to my age or other people's age....I just don't find it that important...unless you are 'under age' which you have to pay some attention to for safety reasons like no drinks ..ect...
lol...I still get carded at bars and the liquor store...lol...which is really amusing!(at 40)...lol

Not everyone is ashamed or feels awkward speaking about age. Those who do, either do not want people to discount them if young,or dismiss them if older. There is also the ego factor, or vanity wherein some, who do not look as old as they really are, do not want people to think of them as older... because they do not want to get older for their own reasons.

There are stereotypes attached to certain age groups, and youth want to be older, while the older want to appear younger... simply because the majority of people "think" in stereotypes. Older men are usually weaker [a serious no no for most men]. Older women are less attractive [at least this is what they think] and thus, women do not want to appear older.

All of this is, of course, ego, or the MIND jerking around the brain and making life miserable for those whose identities depend upon physical appearance. Anyone shy about his/her age has a problem with reality, and also has a less elevated Apapsyche [Operational Energy of the Soul]. The more elevated ones Apapsyche, the more enlightened one is, and the less age would mean to that person. I am speaking in generalities of course.

The person who hesitates to announce his/her age is vulnerable to criticism, and thus in a weakened position. That which we fear is that which others can use against us. This is the reason the wise person challenges every thought he/she has relative to what fear it might be masking. Fear is ignorance, and ignorance is a lack of experience, so being open to experiencing is wise as long as one seeks to avoid harm to self or others though what one experiences.

I dont know. I always wonder why people are very eager to tell their ages from between 15-24. As a matter of fact, many teenagers are happy when people think they look older than they are. People start to be hesistant about telling their ages when they are late 20's to maybe 60 and then once they reach 'elderly' they are again eager to say "Oh, do u know i am 72 years old". Beats me!!

Some people are ashamed of revealing their age for fear that the person might think that they're old. But if a person is old anyways, why be ashamed to admit it?

im not ashamed about my age.. if someone asks me how old i am i always tell them, or jokingly i will say 29 for the 5th time. i also am not afraid to tell people what i weigh. they can see by looking at me that i am over weight, why should i be embarassed to tell them how much over weight i am..

I am in 50's and I have partly grayish hair(never dye) and proud that I have reached age of maturity and balance in life, so there is no need hide my age or its manifestations.

Im not ... I am 37 and proud of it. But most people feel like they are just getting to old and want to try to hang on to their youth a little longer. Like my 18 year old mother. LOL
