I own a 3 year old HP a1000y. It has integrated graphics which are terrible. I have 512 ram. Can I add a graphics card? Will it slow my PC down? I think I have one (white in color) PCI slot open. Any recommendations would be great- I just installed a 19" 700:1 Acer LCD and I don't even have a DVI Hook up so I am running it in analog mode.

Note: I am running integrated graphics- how many mb is that = to? Will a 256mb PCI card look better- will it have a digital output? What brand should I buy?

well you can buy a card that will make things look better but it is going to be old. you are not going to be able to get a top end card with only a pci slot. The new card should make your computer process a little better since i will have a dedicated processor for your graphics.

I would recommend getting the new video card...you will need a PCI version (not AGP or PCI Express). It will definitely not slow down your computer, in fact it will probably make it run faster since you free up motherboard resources by not using the integrated graphics. I suggest going to TigerDirect...they have a great selection of cards to choose from.

Yes, you can add a PCI Graphics card, no problem.

You migth have to go into your BIOS and change the setting for AGP or PCI grahics if there is one. Or your PC may simply detect and use the PCI graphics card once you add it.

You wont get any PCI cards that are worth buying.
Check if it has AGP, which has decent cards.
