I think lightning may have hit the pump last night - maybe. I woke up when I heard a really loud boom at the begining of a storm...

First, check your breaker box - the lightning may have overloaded the pump circuit. Even if it's on, turn it off and then back on to see if the pump will reset.

If the pump is getting power and still not running, the pump may be history. You can replace it yourself if you're handy (or have a handy friend), but I'm certain your well supply company will happily replace it for you.

The last, and least desirable, possibility is that your well has run dry. Let's hope this isn't the problem, as a new well can be relatively expensive.

If your pump was taken out by lightning, check your homeowners' policy - damage from lightning strikes is typically covered after your out-of-pocket deductible.

Good luck!

Have you checked the breaker for the well pump? It should be a 20 or 30 amp two pole breaker in your service panel. If it has tripped turned it all the way off and then reset it.

hopefully you just blew a fuse or tripped the breaker, well pumps are $ 900 and up if you have to get a new one.

DidacticRogue said it all but just to let you know, i just had a new well put in and the had to go down 620' and it cost me $9,000 but that includes the inspectors that came out and the pert testing so its not cheap putting in a new well. hopes yours didn`t run dry.

Call the well drillers. Ordinary plumbers don't work on well pumps.

I guess you get out your yellow pages book and start looking for either plumbers or well drilling and setting companies.
