He returned to Spain to report to the Queen. Actually... Leif Erickson (a Viking) was the first to discover America truthfully. Columbus happened upon it and claimed it which Erickson did not do. I truly do not respect Columbus much really... out of respect for the Native Americans that resided here. His intusion only brought total suffering for their people of all tribes. Not a very kind thing to do when they welcomed us in peace and offered their help and friendship. Makes you wonder where the "civilized world" got the idea to call themselves so with such a history of mistreatment of anyone that didn't think, live, or believe as they did. What a tragedy. It would be more interesting to find out how they (the Indians) got here. Likely from the separation of the continents. I believe there lies the true discovery and claiming of the United States. Something should be given back to the Native Americans for all the ignorance they have endured. We should all celebrate Thanksgiving in THEIR honor...not Columbus.

Christopher Columbus DID NOT "discover" this country. He got lost and ended up here. An occupied land can't be discovered. And to answer your question he proceeded to rape, rob steal and enslave the native people, and after returning to Europe he opened the door for the rest of his disease to come here and take over this whole land and it's resources forced the natives onto reservations. Dirt.

He made at least two more voyages to the New World after his original trip in 1492. On each occasion, he learned more about the area, traded and bartered with the natives, wrote about what he found, and went back to Spain.
