No, their policy of not giving into anger makes alot of sense....ask yourself this...who feels the pain when you are angry...answer only you...why make the situation worse than it already is....dont feel anger...and you wont feel as much pain....in addition their belief that by forgiving others ensures that in return Jesus will forgive them for their sins...and they will be able to enter heaven. (as explained by one Amish man being interviewed on the news last night, re this situation)

I could never be so forgiving for something like that! But the wife of the man who did do the crime didn't do anything cause she knew nothing of it till it happened. What could she do? If she knew she could have called the police but she knew nothing. I feel for the woman and her kids. I also feel for the Amish who lost their young ladies! The Amish do not harbor hate because the lord is forgiving of everyones sins. The Amish are the most purist people in the world. If we could live the way they do, do you realize how much money we would save? The debt in this country would be less then it is now. Why harbor hate for other people? It only causes more violence in the world!!

I wouldn't forgive the killer but you can't take it out on his family. I'm sure his wife and kids are going through enough as it is knowing what her husband and their father has done to these girls, their family's and the community. It's good to know there are still some people in the world who will forgive you even if it's a terrible and hear-trenching act you have betrayed. It could be the only way these people can move on with there lives, forgiveness!

It's not what I would do, but the man's wife is probably suffering as much as the families are, so while I can't relate to what they did, I can respect them for it. It's certainly better than shunning her and rejecting her like some "Christians" might do. (and I'm a Christian, I just think that although these Amish may have an eccentric lifestyle, they are still more Christian than a lot of professing Christians out there.)

I think we should admire the Amish community for their kind-hearted nature. They so much rise above all badness that commands respect. In the middle of their dispair they can think clearly and reasonably and realise that it wasn't the killer's wife's fault that he shot those children. Inviting her to the funeral is the most humane thing the Amish people could do for that poor wife who probably feels the greatest guilt she has ever felt in her life.

They are a simpler people. They are spiritual and loving. Their religion tells them to forgive, so they do. Is there something wrong with not wanting to hold a grudge? The man's wife didn't cause him to act that way. The Amish believe in the hereafter, and they know that they will be together with the girls again soon. (Not literally soon, but there is no "time" in eternity.)

If they can come together as a community and forgive this murderer. They can teach the world a valuable lesson. Imagine if we in the US could forgive the tragedies of 9/11, Imagine if survivors of the Holocaust could forgive Hitler, Imagine if every group in the world that has ever been victimized (I believe that would be just about everyone) could forgive. The world would be a much less violent place.

Personnally if someone murdered my daughter I would not be forgiving. I think its sick and unforgivable.
However thats their religeous beliefs so leave them too it. I am from the UK and we don't have (to my knowledge) any Amish communities so I don't know much about their religeon. I think the forgiveness is thier way to get over it. I would guess they believe that if they forgive the person in question then they will not hold grudges and be able to get on with their lives.

Why it's good to forgive in real simple terms.
Let's say somebody does something real bad and it affects you. Now you hate them, what they did was not OK and you feel like to forgive them is to say that what they did was acceptable. Every time you think about this all those bad feelings come back and you feel those negative emotions all over again. This continues for your whole life and gets compounded by every other bad thing that somebody does to you. YOU LOSE. You are the victim. THEY WIN. They will forget about it, they will move on. You will become bitter and untrusting. THEY WILL CONTINUE TO HURT PEOPLE EVEN IF YOU DON"T FORGIVE THEM. To forgive is not to say that what they did was OK, but to say that you are stronger and you will overcome what they did. If you steal money from me, trust me, you are no longer in my circle of trust. But, I forgive you, because my goal is to be happy and I'm not going to let you divert me from that goal. Get it?

I think that it is a very personal decision whether to forgive or not. They as a community have gone through an unimaginable tragedy and are gaining strength through their religion. I don't think its right to judge them for that, don't forget that they are the victims of this and should be allowed to deal with it in their own way without criticism. I don't think I could forgive in that situation, but I admire them for their humanity.
