I think that at first they try to get through the game without any guides nad stuff but then when they reach a certain part they look to online cheats and tips to get them through it. Which once in a while a tip is okay but then everytime after, they cant beat the next level they know that they can just go and look it up. Then it turns from "playing a game" to just trying to get through it and finish it.
Then some games recommend that you use their strategy guide cause they made them so difficult and intricate. Which I think is just stupid. What happened to the games where you can just sit down, turn it on and game. Thats what I remember. Now with games like Final Fantasy that takes weeks to complete its insane. That when they opt to just "get it done" rather than play it just for fun. IT starts to become a mission or job.

People have this... "psychology" or "weak emotional strength" to play a difficult game. The complexity of games does not appeal to them. Or either they want to explore the contents of the games fast (not waste the time by engaging in preventable difficulties). OR they feel good playing the game at easier pace. Or also likely is that the game is made too unfair.
All these reasons, plus more unidentified reasons, might make gamers resort to cheats, which would relieve all of their complains.

Sometimes it makes the game more fun. Game developers don't always make games fit the difficulty level that players are comfortable with. Cheats allow the players to maximize their fun and enjoy the parts of the game that they paid for. There's nothing worse than not being able to finish the story of a game because one level was made far too hard.

It depends on ther person, some don't like to take the time and work hard to beat they're games they just like to go through the game with ease. Personally i like to play my games through on hard level the first time, that way it take a while before the game is beat then afterwards i may go grab some cheats just for fun.

People cheat because either the game they are playing is to hard for them either they dont have the patience to win the game normally. For example: GTA San Andreas: We can cheat to get a bazouka to blow everyone up in missions, or cheat to get money when they dont have enough to buy what they want.
I presonally dont cheat unless I really need to, but if there is a possibility for me to win without cheating I'll defenetly do it.
Three cheers for non-cheaters! lol

Because they spend hours on end trying to get past one part and when either their girlfriends, wives, or mothers yell at them to do something better with their time they go to the cheat guides because they HAVE to finish the game before they can move on with their lives! It's like some kind of sick addiction. When I first started dating my now husband, I would go over to his place and he'd be playing Kingdom Hearts and when he couldn't get past a certain part, he'd have me read out the cheats to him. I was glad to do it cause the sooner he finished the game...the sooner I'd be coming over and his attention was all mine.
