Here are some guidelines for creating a fabulous PowerPoint presentation:
1. Find out more about your audience and decide the presentation goal.
2. Decide how you should organise the content. For example, introduction should occupy 10 percent of the total slides.
3. Do not use too much text in the PowerPoint slides. Use graphics and explain it verbally during the presentation. For example, a flowchart to explain a process or a bar chart to explain profits for each year.
4. Font size should be large enough for the audience to read.
5. Font color and background color should not have the audience rubbing their eyes. There are templates you can choose from (File -> New -> Design Templates).

You're about to make a horrible mistake. Make your presentation very simple and stick to the facts. Sounds and transitions are really lame and annoying. Make your presentation more interesting when you give the presentation. Elaborate on specific points and explain the brief notes in the presentation. If your presentation is meant to stand on it's own, then powerpoint is not the medium you should be using.

Use it to present visuals (charts, graphs, maps, photographs) that aren't self-explanatory, that you have to explain. Explain the significance, connect it to the other information in your presentation.
Do not use the Powerpoint presentation as your cheat notes to remind you what to say. Booooo-riiiiiing.

you can add animated clips and sound effect. also, by using the "custom animation", you can decide how the text/pics will enter the slide. you can also use interesting powerpoint backgrounds and templates too.
you can refer to the website i have given. it also has some tutorials re ppt. you can even get free downloads! that's the best part!
enjoy!

1. don't put too many animation effects: it can be distracting
2. limit sound usage: again, distracting
3. ensure that you use a good color scheme
4. place al pictures in one part of the slide, for every slide. the picture must be related
5. in case of a background image, make sure it doesn't block the foreground

Are you a teacher? Why not focus on making the LEARNING more interesting? What does the LEARNER need to do to connect with, understand, practice, apply what is being taught?
