Is anyone else shocked by all the racist remarks and hatred?

I grew up in a nasty council house in Wolverhampton, however the indian family next door were called paki's but I always knew they were better than me.

The anonymity of the internet does seem to allow people to express feelings which, I suspect, they usually keep hidden. There appars to be a great deal of anti-Muslim sentiment around, in particular.

This is unfortunate as it will surely have the effect of polarising Moslems further from the social mainstream.

If it is any consolation, I have found that although many people are rascist, they are usually very inconsistantly so, and will usually allow a huge number of exceptions to their generalisations, often forming close relationships with invividuals from groups that they purport to despise.

I find it amazing when i read that a priest gets hauled across the coals, and maybe flung out of the church for saying "there is a nip in the air" when virtually everyone knows that it a local saying about the cold, there is the over sensitive few who pick up on every remark and look as hard as they can for any kind of racial connection no matter how tenuous the link, i think we are all getting to caught up in all the racist remark thing.

The amount of hatred around certainly does shock me though, I cannot understand how you can hate someone you do not know so much because they are a differ ant religion

I've never been ceased to be amazed at the stupidity, and sheer malice to other cultures expressed on here.

I think these people should stop having a go at the cultures they don't like, and allow them to live in peace.

I also think they should stop bombing us and flying planes into buildings.

If you come to Britain, we don't demand that you eat fish & chips, we don't demand you wear certain clothes, and we don't demand that you pray to any particular deity.

The only thing we do ASK for is tolerance to others... as we show tolerance to other cultures. We allow people to move here and practice their own lifestyles, but it's got to the point where if we even ask for the slightest respect for our OWN ways we're screamed at for being racist.

Try going to other countries, then you will see racism.

Which country stood alone against the biggest racist of all time (Hitler) The UK did, until the Russians and Americans were dragged in.

Which country, against it's own interests, stood against Apartheid South Africa in the name of equal rights for non-whites? The UK.

So give up the accusations of in born racism and hatred and take a look in the mirror.. the British people have done more for the causes of other races and religions in the last 60 years than any other country since the year 600!

People use answers to air their socially unacceptable views as there is no comeback. The reason there are so few people arguing against such racist remarks is that such people usually have a life and are out there living it!!

Some people seem to really get off on blaming all their problems on immigrants, politicians or any other group of people - anything so that they can avoid taking responsibility for their own lives.

No. When you get a huge group of people together from around the world you will always have racist remarks and hatred. Its sad but thats the way the world is.

Like many others have already stated, racism is based on ignorance. It doesn't shock me any more, but I still do my bit to combat it, either directly through challenge, or indirectly through humour.

Here's my challenge, and it goes to adrian_p: where's your evidence for a priest being expelled for saying "there is a nip in the air"? It sounds like an urban myth to me.

Oh and can someone called "lordofthetarot" genuinely be concerned about hatred towards Christianity? lol

Unfortunately I'm not surprised. Those that make racist remarks are usually educationally challenged and can't argue their case as they have no other answers. It would be good if people who can't say anything positive or helpful said nothing at all.

i`m disgusted by some peoples attitude on here but i`m not shocked any more and when they run low on racist remarks they start on single mothers or pick on someone s grammar and spelling and when even that has failed to make them feel good about them self they start report people for no good reason I only hope that i`ll never sink to that level

Yes i am. I live in a multi cultured area in Cardiff and there is no bother at all. If only the bigots realised how stupid they sound they'd shut up
