i have a spider on a web over my kitchen unit which has been good at ridding the flies and wasps but i have noticed little black spots on the counter. Either it is dropping or bits of bugs any ideas

Hmm... the evidence is compelling... I saw a spider taking a pee once too- or it could have been a poo, I mean, how could I really tell? It just released a clear globule, which sank quickly into the carpet... that was a roaming spider though, not a web spider. I heard somewhere that the average spider doesn't drink very much, and they usually leave the husks of the insects they eat as well, so maybe the waste they leave will be quite small. If it's not poo you're finding on the unit, maybe the spider is throwing away bits of insect after it's sucked out the juicy insides... sort of like throwing away a chicken bone after eating the meaty bits, or spitting out the seeds from an apple.

The spider in your kitchen sounds like it's doing work for you anyway, so if the waste is bothering you, maybe you could wipe up after it? No, wait, that's almost too sweet ;)

If you look at the anatomy of a spider, you will see it has an anus like other animals to rid its body of waste material. Often you will see pieces of its food caught in its web and this has been eliminated from its body as "poo".
