If your tongue changes colour for a short time, it's probably something you have eaten or drank that contains either a strong food colour, or one that reacts when in contact with the enzymes on your tongue!

If it changes colour for more than a few hours, and maybe even becomes furry or lumpy, then this can be the result of bacteria in the mouth, or a sign of illness!

Brush teeth, and a quick brush of the tongue, several times a day, is always good advice!

If the discolouring persists, any other signs appear (including bad breath) then you should contact your Dentist or Doctor for advice.

Hope this Helps!

What color is it?
A smooth tongue can be a sign of a lack of B vitamins.
A tongue that looks like a 'topographical map' is called 'geographic tongue' and is not a problem.
Temporary discolorations are from eating food or drink with color, like Kool Aid or eating blueberries.
Brush your tongue twice a day when brushing your teeth, and it should be a healthy coral pink color and have the consistency of sandpaper, with little fissures and grooves.

Depends what colour it is really! I mean, bright colours like blue or something then youve obviously been eating / drinking something with lots of colour in. If it has a white coating, could be oral thrush. If its worrying you then best off speaking to a doc so they can do a proper examination
