They are there because there is some dead organic matter under the soil (like a dead root). They are decomposers so they are just doing what they do. When all the material has been decomposed they will die out because ther will be no more food for them. In the meantime, just take a garden rake out there and knock them down with the back of the rake. That will get rid of the unsightliness but the fungus will still be hard at work underground getting rid of that food source.

You might have too much dampness, maybe remove cover over the yard, like tree branches and the like.

You might be able to buy some fungicides to spray on your yard, however, if you rake it often, and try and keep dead plants and what not off of it, you can cut down on them that way to.
