I live in Toronto
I'm "comfortable"........I don't need to be rich with money....

I have a house, a job, my husband and my daughter. And I have lots of friends for support and company.

Of course if I won the lottery that would help some.....but as it stands I'm comfortable,......living a comfortable life.

I noticed that you are training to be a teacher. With that in mind, the answer to your question should be.....

Money only makes you 'well-off' in the traditional sense. Emotional and inner wealth are much more important to a happy and healthy lifestyle.

Ok, here's the real answer...

I am a teacher at an inner city, low-income high school. My job is stressful on SO many levels. Where I live teachers get paid pretty decent money, compared to the other 49 states. But, it's still not as much as some of my college friends in the business world. Plus, you have to think about what is ultimately important to you. I think it's critically important to have strong emotional/inner wealth. But, making money helps you along more than not making good money. You also have to learn how to deal with money. You can be happy poor and miserable rich. It depends on how you live your life.

I think what makes people 'well-off' is a nice balance between money and happiness in general (life, love, etc.).

What do I have? hmmm... We're middle class. We have good jobs. We're still young (under 28). I'm happy to be in love and have a roof over my head and a nice, not flashy, car to drive. I would say that I have a balance of both material and emotional wealth. I would be miserable with only one.

Being successful should be about the balance between the two. I also want to be able to look back 30 years from now and realize that I made important contributions and that I didn't just care about myself.

p.s. I live in Maryland

Northwestern, PA- I think emotional/inner wealth is most important. I think I am fairly well off, I am not rich, but I have 2 great kids, a house, 2 new cars, and I do have money for all the important things I need. I also have a great family and close friends! A little extra money would be nice though. I really like this quote.
"Money can't buy happiness, but it sure can make you awfully comfortable while you are being miserable" ` Clare Luce

No idea if I'm well off - I'm guessing I am in most respects. I'm very weiry of 'surface wealth' - there are many with trapping of wealth - new motor, flash watch etc who I know are living in a world of huge debt. I pay off my credit card each month after years of paying off debts so am free from that madness and have no sympathy for those chasing material happiness - things don't matter, people do.

I'm a musician and I feel music is all I really need. I can connect with the universe anytime I want through music. I feel I have a place in the universe and I am happy with that. I live in Sheffield. I have little material wealth but I love my family and they love me. And I like beer.

Well Off should have nothing to do with material wealth, it should be a combination. I am not poor, but I have cancer, but I have lived a happy life and have plenty of friends, so I believe I am well off.

Well, I`m O.K. Thanks to the fact that I have done all the `right` things in life, studied hard at school and college gained academic laurels to get a good job.I have worked hard all my life, and taken the opportunities I`ve been offered. I have never not worked and have never had any state or social help. What I have I got through my own ability. I am a world away from the little girl from a broken family, who grew up in the streets of the east end of London.

I am very lucky to have both. We live in a nice house, big, in a nice part of town, my hubby has a good job, and we have 4 kids, we all love each other, are very close. (god, i sound like the waltons, don`t mean to), but, i don`t take anything for granted, you never know what is round the next corner, and like everyone else, of course life has thrown some problems our way, but overall, i think we are rich, because we have love, and each other.

What makes you think you have the right to ask such a question on here? What are you, a part-time spy for the tax man, or do you just want to size-up the best areas before you go out on a robbing spree?
