Most life on Earth is not as intelligent as an average human. it stands to reason that if life exists off Earth, it too will be relatively unintelligent.

To answer your Roswell idea,

If I fly on a plane, does that make me as intelligent as the engineers who designed and built it? Is it not possible for an accident to occur?

Thirdly, although I would love for there to be proof of alien life forms visiting Earth, Roswell is an urban myth.

It is the modern equivalent to believing in angels and demons.

Yes i think it is true that some alliens may be more intelligent than the "earthlings". This however may not be true for every alien. As far as the reference to the Roswell incident is concerned, it didn't confirm their intelligence. As for desgining aircraft is concerned, there are many ways in which u may avoid crash landing of spacecrafts.
