I guessing this ties into Disney _ World. It means a whole conglomerate of things Disney. There are 4 main parks, two water parks, Disney stores, Disney food around the parks, and there is Disney Quest. What about Downtown Disney.
It's Disneyland because they never thought it was going to be that big. Califonia Adventures isn't that old. It's only be there since 2001 while Disneyland is 51 years old, I think. So, it was just a land.
A couple facts about Disney is that Walt was mad at Disneyland in California. He didn't want to close it down, but he rather wanted to build a park someone else. You all wonder why?? The reason is because places were building cheap hotels, stores, and food restaurants around his park. He didn't want it to be so darn close to Disneyland.
So, he invested in Disneyworld in Orlando. There was virtually nothing there at all. Land was really cheap also. The thing was that this land was cheap because it was all swamp land. They decided to build a highway in front of the park, and a lot of land surrounding Magic Kingdom.
To this day, you can see that not a lot of things are near the Disney parks. It's farther off because Walt didn't want this to happen. At Disneyland, you come right out off it, and it's a main street with all these things in it. By the way, Disney World was never finished before Walt died. He never got to see the Magic Kingdom open.

Yes, I believe you are wondering about Disney World.
Disney (Walt) wanted to design an entire city based around his company. Disney World outside of Orlando owns the same amount of land as the City of San Francisco. When he first started doing research of the area he wanted to find a place that could be built up in such a way that it resembled the world around it.
For the 1963 World's Fair in New York, many large companies approaced Disney for help in creating dioramas that educated as well as sold their product. In a very cleaver marketing design, Disney started to look into owning a large area where he could control all aspects of a person's experiance. Disneyland was a pet project in the 30's and 40's that was not built until the mid-50's. Disneyworld was a project in the 50's for the 60's that would cater to everyone in the mid-west, Europe and Asia.
