Its a bad decision, but its a mothers to make. I think adoption is best. Let the child live even if you cant take care of it, let someone who can do it for you.

Hayley... am i right in saying you go to a catholic school? they show the very extremes there, i would do your own research on abortion for an unbiased view...... Anyway a good source of reference is the Marie Stopes website. They also have lots of offices you could probably visit. The main thing with Abortion is britain is how to get one.. Two doctors need to give consent and if they dont then you have no choice but to have a baby.....With some one like Marie Stopes they have a doctor who will sign for you but you still need to have your own doctor consent....the other key issue is length of time gone... after 8 weeks then you are pretty much not going to get one in Britain, and you wuill likely book a cheap ryan air flight to barcelona where they will do it up to something like 19 weeks...
The Pill you take (2 of) is done in two stages, the first stage damages the lining surrounding the baby inside, giving access to the chemicals in the following pill taken 2 or three days later,. The second pill dissolves the foetus, it is not pretty and you (or in my case partenr) will bleed heavily and you can see the ''bits''...
it is a very trying experience and we will never go through it again, despite it being the right choice at the time.. it is also not guaranteed and if it hasnt work, you have to either risk having the baby which may be damaged by the chemicals, or you have to have an abortion the ''traditional way'' which is the way everyones mind conjurs up when you think of abortion.
all the best with your project and i hope it is a project and not fascade to get advice for yourself as this is the wrong place, speak to a friend or your GP

Well all I know about it is that its best carried out as EARLY as possible and in a medically controlled environment. (This is will be impossible if the anti-abortionists get their way and women will be resorting to back street clinics, knitting needles, dirty knives, drug overdoses etc. Very nasty and dangerous).

If its carried out very early (before 10 weeks or so) I beleive they use suction to clear out the contents of the womb (the embryo, womb lining etc - there isn't really anything else there at that stage and the embryo itself isn't much more than a "blob").

Later abortions are obviously nastier and more unpleasant because the fetus is much bigger and more "baby" like. i beleive later ones are carruied out under general anaesthetic and they have to dliate the cervix and remove the fetus. Not very nice, especially as fetuses from about 21 weeks can survive for a short time outside the womb. all the more reason that abortions should be done EARLY if they need to be done. I beleive the current limit for an abortion in the UK is 24 weeks. But only very rare cases get that far along, Its normally done way before the embryo even becomes a "fetus".

I an NOT anti-abortion. I am 31 weeks pregnant with my first child and love my baby so much but this does not mean I would want to force a 12 year old rape victim to bear her rapist's baby because I was all warm and fuzzy about the "poor little baby". Pregnancy and birth are HARD and going through all that, perhaps at a young age and carrying a child that was forced on you through rape, and then having to hand it over to strangers never to see it again - thats just so cruel. In many cases abortion is the best option.

yes we spent 3 lessons in RE learning about it!!! there are several methods - one is a pill thats called R something

How Abortions are done
There are 5 main methods of abortion. The methods used will usually depend upon the size of the
born child. Sometimes more than one method may be combined.
Vacuum Aspiration (suction abortion)
Under anaesthetic, the neck of the womb (or 'cervix') is opened by probes (or 'dilators') and a tube
is inserted. When the vacuum machine is switched on, the unborn child is sucked, in pieces, down
the tube into a disposable jar. If the head is too large, it may be crushed before being removed.
This is the most common method of early abortion used on its own up to 20 weeks in pregnancy.
About 80% of abortions in England and Wales are done this way. (After 20 weeks it is usually
combined with D&E).
Dilation and Curettage (D&C)
Instead of a tube, a scraping instrument (or curette) is used and the unborn child is scraped, in
pieces, from the womb. As with every abortion, unless all the parts are removed infection may set
in.
Dilation and Evacuation (D&E)
Instead of a curette, small forceps are used to crush the body and pull it out in bits. As this is usually
used later,(most commonly beyond 20 weeks), the body is larger and, as with D&C, someone must
check that every part of the body has been removed.
Prostaglandins (induced premature labour)
This method takes place on the ward, not in the operating theatre. hormones called prostaglandins
are injected to bring on labour, which may last for 8 to 22 hours. The labour is intense and the child
is expelled from the womb. If this method is used after 18 weeks the child may be alive for at least a
short time after delivery. To prevent this, a poison (called urea) may be added to the waters of the
womb to kill the child before delivery. If the neck of the womb has not opened enough, the head
may be crushed with forceps so that the rest of the body can be removed. Many late abortions are
now performed by bringing on labour in this way.
RU486 The Abortion Pill
This is a drug which can be given up to the 9th week of pregnancy. It prevents nourishment from the
mother reaching child, causing its death. The mother is also given prostaglandins (see above) to
help her body expel the child, perhaps days later. The woman will usually have to go to a hospital or
clinic three times.
Morning-after pill (Levonelle-2)
This is a powerful drug which is taken within 72 hours of sexual intercourse. It is primarily an
abortifacent (not a contraceptive) and prevents implantation of the already fertilised egg in the
endometrium (lining of the womb). Levonelle-2 is particularly dangerous for women with diabetes,
high blood pressure, heart disease and many other medical conditions.

just copy all that and you'll be fine!!!

yes I do, what ever questions you need to do you can email them to me from this site. I was going to go and have an abortion with my 5th son, went through the process and when it came down to it, I couldn't do it. I know the process and what they do. The first thing you do is to go to the clinic and check in, then you sit and wait for them to call your name. You go through a movie first that tells you about the procedure, than you go back and wait again for your name, then you go and talk to a counceller, then a urine test,an ultrasound, and a blood test, once all those are done you go back out and wait for the dr. to call your name so as he can do the procedure. They give you a local anestetic. and pay with cash or insurance. there are a few ways about getting an abortion. They gave me a choice of either doing it at home, which is taking a pill and within 5 hours give or take a few hours, you'll feel the urge and go sit on the potty chair and the baby will come out and you flush. or having the dr. do his procedure. I couldn't do either of them so, I ended up giving birth to my 5th son. If you have any more questions than let me know. THis is what they do in Minnesota.

What do you kids get taught about in school???

This is an awful thing to talk about in an R.E. lesson.
I personally believe that this could be why there are so many teenage pregnancies and abortions, because schools are teaching children about how to get rid of an unwanted pregnancy instead of how to prevent pregnancy in the first place.

I feel this is something that should be discussed in the privacy of a childs home, not in a classroom full of children writing notes on how to have an abortion incase they want one.

All i know is that it can REALLY screw you up if you're not emotionally ready for it, but can be a godsend if you know you really can't have the baby.
