the disease: acquired immune deficiency syndrome (aids) is a disease spread through normally sexual contact. however, hiv infected blood getting into an open sore or anywhere it can get into your bloodstream can also transmit the disease. it began in africa when someone did something they shouldn't have done with a monkey (i think... maybe an ape or gorilla, i never was good at knowing what animal was where). eventually this lovely french male steward contracted and being the... sexually active person he was he caused aids to spread far quicker than it normally would have.
essentially it attacks your white blood cells lowering their number to the point where a common cold turns into full blown pneumonia and that is the most common cause of death in aids patients. technically no one dies of aids - they die of complications as a result of the low white blood cell count (white blood cells are what your body uses to get rid of bad bacteria and viruses in your body)
hiv is a semi-manageable disease, but it is by no means curable. also, with all the different medications going to aids patients, new strains of hiv are forming so that the medications that worked 5 years ago no longer work...
there's loads of information on it, just google it to find out what you want to know.

AIDS isn't one single disease, but a group of illnesses and conditions, ranging from yeast infection (candida) to cancer and pneumonia. While some of the "AIDS defining" illnesses and conditions can be fatal, many of them are not.
Some of these conditions can actually cause a person to receive a "positive test result."

Some of the drugs currently available for people diagnosed with AIDS mimic many of the the symptoms of the illnesses and conditions that are collectively called AIDS.

Aids stands for..Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. In shirt, it is a disease that drastically inhibits the effectiveness of your immune system. With a deficient immune system, your antibodies and blood cell count are affected and you are unable to combat against other sicknesses. In this state, one would be especially susceptible to common illnesses (the common cold for one), and such an illness could be fatal.
