Gold Ingots are called "yuen Bao" in Chinese. They were used by high officials in ancient China as the dynasty's currency.
the 'qin' dynasty, the 1st emperor of china standardized the 'bronze' coinage system in weight, that set the precedence for future money transactions.
hence, during the golden age of china, tang dynasty's emperor wu de (621 ad), rebel against that sytem, & revolutionalized weighing 'gold' instead.
It has the shape similar to a boat, this symbolises abundance and an easy life, as in the saying "Plain Sailing".

Because It was easy to take along with in accient Time of China,and the Shape made the yuan bao more stable to lie.
