During election season they are all for the people. Some really care and do a good job. Too many are self-serving and conveniently forget why they are there. Their only loyalty is to themselves and their own party.
Most of the time they are only on the floor for a vote, (because they have to) but are not there for the debates, have no idea what they are voting for but just go along with whatever the party says.
They do each other favors by exchanging votes: The voters are disregarded unless the polls jerk them awake.
It sounds unpatriotic but this 'get out the vote movement' and such devices are wrong because I think you should not vote if you do not know what or whom you are voting for.
If you have an informed, intelligent reason for your viewpoint it doesn't matter to reasonable people who you vote for but please, let it be educated or we will all go over the cliff blindfolded and these same people will have no idea how it happened.
Just my opinion.

It's pure and simple power tripping, they think their "high" career postion places them above others in terms of social and moral behaviour.
Even if they start out with good intentions they are seduced by the glamour of the power and the media attention, a lot of Hollywood stars and Music stars suffer the same fate. Our current government have got power sickness bad and need to be stopped. They start to believe they are invincible and that we will believe any old rubbish they tell us. They also assume the problems they cause society are societies own fault and not theirs, hence why they try and tell us what to do about virtually bloody everything. They assume it will improve things when it reality it makes things much worse; because the public get utterly bloody sick of being told what to do!
They behave themselves, like an underhand bunch of idiots, doing all the kind of stuff they tell us not to do and stuff which most people don't do anyway! No wonder we all think politicians are scum!

You can't say that about EVERY government official. It also depends on what country you're talking about. There are many fine and dedicated government workers that give the taxpayers many years of excellent service. If these officials you're speaking of are elected to office, maybe you should consider voting them out.

Your absolutely correct. But from what I can see, its not just elected officials. Its pretty much ALL government workers. Its a big power trip for small minds when they feel they can tell you how to run your life.

This is because they possessed the power of decision and the force of coercion. Using power at their disposal they can try to do everything. Power is a magic that govern the minds of human being.

Its what you can call vanity, power tripping and pure greed. Majority (not all since some really work) of government officials have that mentality that they can do as they darn well please just because they're in office.
