First, clean the basement well and air it out as best you can. Then, you can buy moisture absorbing gels that are commonly used in storage buildings. They absorb the moisture effectively and inexpensively, therefore reducing the smell moisture can cause.

Air and reduction moisture through dehumidifier or moisture absorbing gels.......easy and effective.

Dehumidifier is the only thing working for me !

As soon as I shut it off I can smell the musty scent again. Mine runs now, 24/7

Cut an onion in half. Put halfs in 2 corners. Works for paint smells

Put some charcoal in the corners it does not smell but it well absorb the smell and any moister.

ventilate when outside air is not too humid or warm to cause condensation in basement.
or use dehumidifier.
