If you are talking about the type of thing that catches water off the roof, have you thought about converting a black dustbin (cut a whole in the lid etc) Works well in my garden!

There are no water butts that impersonate birds.

However, the council have schemes to provive them at very low prices. Call the "technical Services " or Environment dept at your council, they normally handle it.

They are not the best quality but we've got about 4 of them, they are OK for £5 each

My water butt does not "cheep" but it was cheap from the local council! Every so often they have special offers. Check with yours.

Are you in UK? my local water authority were selling 205 litre (40 gallon or so ) butts complete with stand and rain diverter kit ( to transfer water from the downspout to the butt ) for £35 .

Quite a lot of factories have non toxic fluids delivered to them in big plastic and metal drums, they very often just get stacked at the back of the factory and never used....Would imagine a factory boss would jump at the chance of you taking some off his hands. Or try your local tip...its a little gold mine

Ask your local council - I got one for free from ours. If not they might have a special deal going on.
