Yep! you've been ripped-off love! I'd of taken the parcel for half that price.

No, £50 is about right. I use a courier firm in Crawley for that job on a regular basis, so depending on the size of the van (I take it its a small one) its spot on. You may find it slightly cheaper if you can find a courier who is already going up to town and will take your goods as an addition (should cost you about £25).

That seems reasonable. I was a courier about 10 years ago and reckoning on the cost of stuff going up etc I'd say that was about right or maybe even better value than I'd have been charging now. Depends how big the item is as well.

I don't know if there is one in your area but there is a newish franchise about called Fastway Couriers. They offer same day delivery in the same county from £2.95 and other cheap services. They have a website www.fastwaycouriers.co.uk, it might be worth checking it out.

that sounds about right. You're asking the van driver to go 35-odd miles each way, and if the traffic's bad it could take 2 hours just to get into central London.
If it's urgent to get it there the same day and you want to save money, why not get someone to take it on the train? Quicker and cheaper.

Depends on the size of the object, and how heavy it is.
Congenstion charge is only like £8 or something!!
