My system was virus infected sometime back.After cleaning it is not normal as before.I want to format my hard disk.What do I need to do to safeguard my existing good files?

make sure you have clean copies of any drivers specific to your system, for example, the display driver, DVD/CD-ROM dos drivers or software. Of course you must have a valid OS install disk as well. As a good test to see how things might go, power off, physically disconnect all hard drives, and power up. Make sure you can boot from CD, and can run setup from CD drive, and have authorization code, which for some reason is not asked for until you've spent an hour doing install, thinking you had the right number. Also check hard drive's manufacturer's site for any tools or overlays they might have. If you really want your drive clean, Use fdisk, then format, then reinstall. If Windows can find any trace of previous OS, it might reset configuration to be like before, which sucks if the previous configuration is buggy.

1. u have all the driver cd's available to u (like sound, display and other devices connected)

2. copy all the necessary files u made like word or other files like pictures, movies etc.

3. do virus scan all the files u keep before using them again.

try to defragment ur HD than scan it for viruses and copy it to another hard disk or save hard ware,then format ur original hard disk and after that u can recopy the important data u want from the spare HD and there u r,problem solved.

copy yr data on other hard-drive of onther comp & scan it again.
But b4 coping data scan that complete HDD on which u r going 2 transfer data with Anti-virus.
after scanning yr data with updated Anti-virus format yr HDD.
after installing OS install Anti-virus first & update it.
then install other softwares.

Make sure you save everything to a disk and reload after you format or you will lose it.
