The actual quote is:
"People can be divided into three groups: Those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who wonder what happened."
On some sites it is claimed that John W. Newbern said it, on others Nicholas Murray Butler.
Which one is true? Butler lived from April 2, 1862 until December 7, 1947, Newbern lived from August 27,1876 until June 11,1936, so Butler was born just over 14 years earlier and lived almost 26 years longer. Does that mean Butler said it first? Not really... but it does give Butler (nobel prize winner, btw) a bigger chance...
