Yes!! I live alone and took a swipe at a monster, lost my balance, went head-first into the wall (leaving a dent) and suffered concussion! That was 10 days ago, and still have to turn carefully otherwise I lose my balance. Very funny to others - I still don't know who won, the spider or me, but I did get it eventually! Howzat?
PS: To stop them, sprinkle a few drops of citronella oil round the room, or peel a few conkers in a small bowl - friends told me and both tips work (wish I'd known about them sooner!)

Learn more about them. As your knowledge increases your fear will decrease. the "garden spiders" referred to are actually called "Golden garden spiders" and they eat 200 times their body weight each day. That's a lot of bad bugs gone.
Brown Recluse and B widdows seldom grow larger than the size of a quarter. Both are reclusive and prefer to be where we are not. These are two spiders I will kill, the others I let live because they feed on all the nasty bugs I don't want in my house.
Jumping spiders -- any spider that jumps -- are my personal favorites. They are voracious hunters. Not venomous to humans and not aggressive.
Identify the spiders in your house, then decide whether or not to skwissssh them. They really are more afraid of you....

Lady, you better catch one in a jar and take it to an expert, you could have a problem. Brown recluses or black widows are the main large dangerous spiders in the US. Check the net for pictures. how big are they?

Oh yes, big horrible looking things........I though, have been very very lucky this year, only one I have seen in my house, mum has had loads, until I told her my trick.........Conkers......Get some conkers, and put one by each window, and one by every door opening.....they dont like them. I got them around my bed too, in the bathroom, etc. Another trick, if they are in the bath, put talc on them, they dont look half as scary white as they do black. Easier to get rid of then.
