Can an army exist without an enemy?

Army does many works other than fighting with the enemy. It rescues people in case or flood, fire, accident, danger etc. It has to maintain law and order if the police is unable to control public like in case of riots etc. They are required in many constructions at far flung areas. They do many social work also. They do training etc.

So you don't need enemies to justify the existence of ARMY.

I don't think an Army could exist without a foe.
But I'm sure the need 4 a defense Unit, would always b an issue.

An army is necessary even in the absence of an immediate enemy. A country must be prepared for an invisible enemy in the making. Building up an army takes a long time. You cannot make an instantaneously, just at the moment you spot an enemy and need to engage him.

Yes. A country needs an army for defense. Who knows when an enemy will pop up. The government of a country has to be prepared.

For me, the army is a defense of the country. So if the country has no enemies, so does the army.

But I think they'll find enemeies anyway in the world we live in today.

Unfortunatly, there will always be enemies. War have been going on since the begining of time. Sad to sya, but war is part of human nature.
