Good bet.
No, they don't pay taxes on farm land. They are not-for-profit and do not use any of the amenities created by the rest of us with our property taxes (schools, water works, sidewalks, etc.) ... they make their own.
It's not really congenial. Sort of isolationist and all. But they do serve as a great source of fresh produce.

Yes the Amish pay taxes. On farm land, on income, on death (yes there are death taxes, but usually consolodated into funeral costs) They take the Bible as 'wrote' or law. Specifically render to Ceasar what is Ceasers and unto God what is Gods. However, most amish communities do not take interest on monies they have in the bank (or credit union as they usually use) They also pay school taxes and municipal taxes. They must meet standardised testing for their districts. The idea that not for profit group do not pay taxes is a myth. All Churches pay taxes on land and services. However, because they are mostly not hooked up to the power grid, have their own septic systems and other things, they have lower tax rates. The same is true for many cottage dwellers that also do not have the same services on vacation properties.

Grendle's answer is totally wrong.

Yes. The Amish have to pay taxes on their lands and their incomes. Also, their schools must meet state curriculum standards, and their farms must meet all environmental regulations, etc.

While the Amish keep to themselves (for the most part), there is still considerable regulatory interaction between them and the rest of society.
